Greetings,

OES contacted Ride and Tie event coordinator last month to offer amateur
radio operators from AuxComm to assist in communication. The email below is
what OES received last week. I have requested additional information such
as volunteer liability forms and job descriptions. So as to not wait any
longer, if any amateur radio operators are interested please email me and
cc the coordinator (Sequoya Ward: duncme2 at gmail.com). I will send
additional information as it becomes available. I will develop an Event
Action Plan as more information becomes available.

Date: Saturday July 30, 0800 to approximately 1600

   - 1 Amateur Radio operator @ Peavine Ridge road,
   - 1 Amateur Radio operator @ Grasshopper
   - 1 Amateur Radio operator @ Homestead trail or at the beginning of
   Baxter
   - 1 Amateur Radio Communications Shadow for event Coordinator,
   - 1 Amateur Radio Communications Shadow for SAR,
   - 1 Amateur Radio Net Control operator

The event coordinator did request amateur radio operators to attend the
1800 meeting on Thursday and Friday but are not required to attend.

Regards,

Hello, found some time to get you the information you asked
for forever ago, sorry it took so long. The courses were just decided on a
few weeks ago and maps finished recently. I have included all the maps
here, but I believe we will get by just fine on Friday without your help.
The course on Friday is short, and won’t be too far off into the boonies.
You Ham radio folks are totally welcome to come out on Friday and set up
and camp (for free) of course. But if I had to pick one day to have your
services provided to us it would be for Saturdays event.

It would be great to have HAM operators out on the course in 2 spots that
can be accessed by service roads, as well in the vet check at Albee creek
overflow area. I believe I explained what a vet check is in our phone
conversation, but… The horses have to pass a vet inspection saying they
are fit to continue, which means not too tired or dehydrated basically,
before they can continue onto the next loop of the race. If we could have
HAM people there with us it will help my team note that we haven’t
misplaced a rider or horse between us and them somewhere.

The race *on Friday the 29th starts at 8:00* (this would be the one we can
cover on our own I believe,, but your help is welcome if you want to be
there for this one too).

The race *on Saturday the 30th* also *starts at 8:00*. I’d say it could
take 8 hrs. for the last team to finish…. But should only take around 6 for
the last team to pass the second location that HAM folks would be stationed
at on Grasshopper.

The 2 locations I’m hoping to have HAM people at are, on Peavine Ridge
road, right were the Thornton trail turns off. So both long and short
course participants can be tracked to the point where they split off from
each other. Then the second spot would be at the top of Grasshopper, where
it turns off to Johnson trail, this would be to track just the long course
participants, as the short course will be turning off and headed over to
Baxter and home. If you had enough people interested and wanted to set up
another Ham group somewhere on Homestead trail or at the beginning of
Baxter that would totally be cool too. If not then my main focus would be
those other 3 points.

It sounds like we have SAR onboard too!!! So any communication that you
guys could have back and fourth would be very helpful. They will be
stationed in the vet check and possibly on parts of the trail… waiting to
hear back from the park about what they will allow for them to do as far as
field experience goes. Hoping they allow the use of quads for them.

There will be a rider meeting *on Thursday night*for the racer on Friday
am, and then one on Friday night for the racer on Saturday am. Both
meetings are loosely scheduled for *6 pm* those nights. Would like to have
Ham folks there for that. We could have a meeting earlier in the day for
just me and them as well.

Any HAM people will have a brown bag lunch provided, and dinner at the
awards dinner either night. For free. Free camping, and will receive a cool
hat with the ride and tie logo on it for their help as well as a LOT of Big
Thank you for being here’s. 😊

Let me know what else you need from me now or down the road. I was told by
Jennifer Kubik that Sargent McCall was going to reach out to Ranger
Valterria about SAR stuff.

Thanks for being part of our event!

Sequoya Russ
