I don't know who gave this guy our mailing list, but I think that's a
real no-no.
If I get any more emails from non-members, I will remove myself from the
HARC list.

Thanks to all who have replied to my previous email!

My next request is for recommendations on a base station. I've only
worked with HTs and mobiles, and want to set up something fixed, now
that I no longer live in an apartment.

Currently, I have a tech license and my interests in amateur radio are
mostly for local/emergency comms and experimenting with digital modes.
DXing isn't much of an interest to me, though maybe because I haven't
yet caught the bug.

I've considered upgrading my license, but haven't found a strong enough
reason to do so. Maybe someone would like to sell me on the idea?

So I'm asking for recommendations on a radio for my home base. If not a
specific make/model, then perhaps features/capabilities of a radio that
I might want to look for?

I know that the usual answer is "it depends" (on what I want to do with
it), but aside from the reasons I mentioned above, I don't really know
what else I would use the radio for; that is, at least until I've had a
base station for a while, and discovered "Oooo! I also want to do X now".

As far as a budget goes, I'm ballparking that it would cost me between
0.5 and 1 kilobucks, but I wouldn't refuse donations, either ;)

I apologize for being so vague, and I appreciate your patience with me.
