My friend Michael K6WK told me that Stan passed away a few days ago.
Stan had been living at the Redding Veterans Home with his wife, Joan.
I knew Stan from when I was a member of STARES back in the early 2000’s.
He was more of a Red Cross volunteer than a STARES volunteer as I recall.
I saw Stan over the years and he always had a smile on his face.
Several years ago, I was tasked with setting up an amateur radio station
at the Vets Home, I happened to see Stan in the dining hall. I walked
up to him and said hello. I don’t think that he remembered me.
When I told him that I was working on setting up a ham station at the
Vets home, his eyes lit up. He explained that he had sold or given away
all of his ham gear thinking that his ham radio days were over. He was
so glad to hear that he might be able to enjoy amateur radio again.
Stan enjoyed having the station at the Vets Home and he checked into his
Sunday morning net often.
Paul, would you pass this information along to STARES members.
Jaye, would you pass this information along to the Sunday morning net crew.
Thank you.
