Also, I realized I already had an app installed on my PC, called ADIF, which would analyze the logs produced by RMS Trimode (the application that runs the HF Gateway). Here are the results I was most interested in (the addition of 10m & 15m to my gateway is too recent to show in this graph): -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is an affordable but high quality kit you can build with relatively minimal soldering experience and opens up bands from 160m - 6m. Of course, technician-class stations can operate on part of 10m and all of 6m, and bits of other bands if you are into CW. Importantly, techs can *listen* on all bands which alone is a lot of fun, easy with simple cheap wire antennas, and motivation for upgrading. I recently built this kit, and am happy to assist others who might be interested. It's QRP so 3-5 Watts depending on how you wind your filter toroids, but I think QRP is a fun challenge—I recently "activated" Trinidad State Beach for Parks On The Air using 3 Watts on SSB and it was really exciting. I'm going to try HF Winlink as soon as I have some time to figure it out. https://qrp-labs.com/qmxp.html Jacob KO6JNQ On Wed, Nov 5, 2025 at 9:52 AM Friday Ululani via Harc < harc at reflector.humboldt-arc.org> wrote: > Hi, everyone. > As mentioned at last night's HARC meeting, I have added 10m to my HF > Winlink Gateway. The log on the gateway says "weak signal detected", and I can't connect, but the signal strength meter (in the app) shows an overly strong signal. The strong signal is to be expected, since my antennas are about 50' apart, even though I'm down to the lowest tx power I can set on my FT-991A (5W). So, maybe the software is giving me this error message because the signal is too strong - IDK. It has no problem connecting immediately, if I switch to packet. Please see the following statement. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Statement Issuance: 18 November 2025 *SKYWARN Recognition Day 2025 Cancelled * NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS) has announced the cancellation of *SKYWARN™ Recognition Day (SRD) 2025*. The necessary time and resources required to plan a comprehensive national event for SKYWARN™ Recognition Day 2025 are not available this year. Thus, the difficult decision was made to cancel this year's event by the NWS. The NWS will work with ARRL and SKYWARN™ spotters to brainstorm ideas to redevelop a spotter appreciation event in 2026. ARRL, the National Association for Amateur Radio®, which has a Memorandum of Understanding with NWS, emphasized the strength of the long-standing partnership behind the event. “ARRL is proud of the continued partnership with the National Weather Service to promote and recognize SKYWARN™ and the volunteers around the country. We look forward to working together to revitalize and promote SKYWARN™ Recognition Day again next year,” said Josh Johnston, KE5MHV, ARRL Director of Emergency Management. Established in 1999 by the National Weather Service and ARRL, SKYWARN™ Recognition Day celebrates the critical contributions SKYWARN™ volunteers make in supporting the NWS mission to protect life and property. Amateur radio operators constitute a significant portion of these volunteers, providing essential communication links between NWS and emergency management agencies when traditional communications fail. The NWS-ARRL SRD National Committee extends its appreciation to all SKYWARN™ volunteers for their dedication and service to their communities, and offers best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On behalf of the SRD planning team, we look forward to our continued partnership and preparation for SRD 2026. It's never been out of my house, and I've used it a few times to check in to a net. It includes the RT Systems programming software and cable as well as everything that came in the box (box included). It is currently programmed with all the local repeaters and simplex frequencies, but I can do a factory reset if a buyer requests. $140 73 Peter -- Michael-Peter Esko W6IES -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Batteries: I check my spares quarterly to be sure they haven’t died or dropped too far. And I always unload alkaline batteries after each use because if their leakage potential. Cheat sheets: I had to make these for all of my VHF/UHF radios soon after I acquired them in the early 00’s (the dawn of the Menu Age). I edit them occasionally as my operating needs change. I also use programming software for 3 of them, BUT that’s only good if your computer has power….. My Kenwood TH-D74 had deep scratches on the screen. Polywatch actually removed them. $9 for 5g from Amazon, includes a microfibre chamois. I've never understood why ham eq't manufacturers don't use glass screens like cell phones do. Now I'll order screen protectors. 73 Peter -- Michael-Peter Esko W6IES -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
