It seems to have line-of-sight to Arcata, Trinidad, and most of Eureka. Most HF gateways scan (listen to) multiple amateur radio bands. It takes the RMS Trimode program 3-5 seconds, to change bands, let the autotuner do its thing, listen, and then move on. So, if a gateway is scanning 4 bands (fairly common), it needs 15 to 20 seconds to run through them all. My gateway scans 7 bands, and needs about 30 seconds to check them all. If your attempts to connect only last 15 seconds, then you have a 50%-60% chance to be transmitting when my gateway is *not listening* to your band. If you pull down the "select channel" menu in VARAFM, it shows three frequencies for W6FRI: 145.030, 144.910, and 145.630. The 145.030 was a first shot at finding a new frequency, but I realized it's a little too close to Jaye's BBS. I'd forgotten how tricky it is to find a frequency for gateways, lol.  Band plans differ so much, from place to place.  Wide is different than  narrow... it goes on and on. Message-ID: Hey folks, I have had a few days to catch up after Field Day 2026 and I would like to thank everyone who participated. We had great food and camaraderie. I really enjoy the public facing aspect of Field Day and it was great to have folks in our community show up to ask questions about amateur radio and even get on the air for a spell. Some folks saw Peter's TV appearance and that peaked their curiosity enough to come out and see what were were up to. Hey folks,I have had a few days to catch up after Field Day 2026 and I would like to thank everyone who participated. We had great food and camaraderie. I really enjoy the public facing aspect of Field Day and it was great to have folks in our community show up to ask questions about amateur radio and even get on the air for a spell.
