[Harc] Upcoming HARC Reflecting changes

Dear HARC Reflector users,

The Humboldt Amateur Radio Club is undergoing a technological remodeling
process, and the mailing list has to be ‘moved’ to a subdomain to make it
happen. Because HARC is a non-profit, we were able to get Microsoft to
donate cloud hosting, email & file storage services, and free Office Online
accounts for club members.

In order to enable all the features, we are moving the club’s default email
flow to the Microsoft cloud servers, and essentially moving the Mailman
mailing list known as the HARC Email Reflector to a subdomain,
reflector.humboldt-arc.org.

This means the new email address to send information and news to the HARC
reflector will soon by HARC at reflector.humboldt-arc.org . There will also be
a new location for the web storage of the email archive. That’s it. Adding
‘reflector’ to the reflector’s address is the big change.

In about a week, a ‘new’ mailing list will be created in this subdomain and
all the existing users and their email preference settings will be migrated
to the new subdomain, and it would be as if nothing happened except the
change of the address and the possible bifurcation of the archive. I have
high hopes the entire archive can be moved, but that is outside of my
control.

The social reason for this move is so every dues paying member of the
Humboldt Amateur Radio Club will get access to a CALLSIGN at humboldt-arc.org
email address, as well as access to all the club’s digital resources,
including Office Online, the web version of Microsoft Office, the cloud
file storage of SharePoint and OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams. Of course,
any email could be just forwarded to your existing address if you don't care

This new ‘digital clubhouse’ will be a great place to share resources with
other club members and have them still be accessible and useful well after
the post has been sent. Unlike the HARC reflector archives, it will
maintain attachments, links, and can even host local copies of project
files, slide decks, or even videos. But the very best part of this is that
it gives us a place to collaborate on the same community projects but at
different times, places, and ways.

So, if you aren’t a current member of HARC, sign up now
<https://www.humboldt-arc.org/about/membership-application/>. We are voting
at next month's meeting for the Board of Directors and rolling out all of
these digital changes. Get access to this semi-private, semi-public
storehouse of club history. Help create the club’s future and ride the wave
of slow but steady changes as people get more used to ‘living’ in a place
where sharing files is as easy as sharing photos of lunch.

Thank you for your understanding,

Seer Snively - KM6MWO
