There will be two (2) days scheduled for the earth quake exercise:

Saturday, October 14th (operational period) from 0900 to 1200 “Amateur Radio Equipment Test Day”:
Humboldt Amateur Radio Club (HARC) Mobile Communications Unit (MCU) is scheduled to engage in an amateur radio frequency signal strength test. HARC shall confirm signal strength with amateur radio operators that plan on operating on HF frequencies. It is encouraged that OA partners to participate in this test to confirm they are able to contact HARC MCU. Those that register as HF unaffiliated amateur radio operator or OA partner using HF will be contacted by Communications Leader (CommL) to review communications plan. Due to the large scale of the exercise, it is important all operational area partners test their radio equipment for the exercise on the 19th. CERT/SHEPT teams with MCU trailers or portable operations are encouraged to test their equipment before Thursday October 19th . CERT/SHEPT teams that want to test their ability to contact the HARC MCU on Saturday October 19th or questions regarding testing equipment please contact OES office: (707) 268-2500 or by email: oes at co.humbold.ca.us

Thursday, October 19th (operational period) from 0900 to 1200 “Shake Out Earth Quake Exercise”:
HARC MCU will operate from Ferndale Fairgrounds as net control for amateur radio to OES Emergency Operations Center (EOC). CERT/SHEPT team members are to report to their team leaders by either amateur radio or text messaging. Team leaders shall forward their members text messages and radio traffic to OES EOC by text message (CERT/SHEPT MCU’s shall not have direct radio contact with HARC MCU). Unaffiliated volunteers using amateur radio shall contact HARC MCU directly to submit field reports by HF or VHF repeater. Operational Area partners shall submit their agencies/departments field report by their chosen mode (text or radio) to OES EOC.

What is required:
Field Reporters do not report to a location, they report from where they are (home/school/work). All participants shall be provided (emailed) a script and links to documents to practice filling out incident command forms. You are not required to submit any forms to participate in the exercise. The purpose of the forms is to help OES identify gaps in service and develop future training.

Total time required for the exercise:
• Field Reporter Volunteers = 20-30 minutes within operational period
• MCU Support Staff Volunteers = 1-3 hours within operational period
• EOC Support Staff Volunteers = 2-3 hours within operational period
• Operational Area Volunteers = 1-2 hours within operational period

REMINDER: There are two registrations: National and local. We are encouraging everyone to register for both nationally and locally if they can.

Thank you for your commitment to supporting your community preparedness and participating in the exercise.
Please forward this email to friends, family, and co-workers that may want to participate in the exercise or learn more about earth quake preparedness.
